Ouch!

I've decided that when I'm fit, I'll be awesome

Remember back in March when I decided I needed to get fit tried exercising and the powers that be possesed my cat?

There's something out there stopping me from getting fit

Well this is where the story starts again

My attempt to get fit. Take #45862193

Husband and I signed up to play Hockey

We decided each week that we'd start running/jogging/doing something to get ourselves ready for the Hockey season and summer

Those few weeks came and went and before we knew it, we were putting on our running shoes and going out on the field with our sticks

That was last Wednesday, I came away with a pulled muscle under my bum/top of my left leg
A few days later, I stepped down a bigger than usual step and pulled the top front of my right leg
( I'm not good at biology, I don't know the names of the muscles )

One leg couldn't go up, the other couldn't go down

This week on Hockey day, I ran about three steps and couldn't go on, it was too sore. Now in this Hockey game, you have to have three girls on the field at all times. There were only three girls who turned up. Me included.

I was in for a whole game

I stood on one spot and told everyone about my sore legs and pretty much feeling sorry for myself/sad I wasn't helping much and there were no girl subs

Well I stood there defending the goal as best as I could and someone got pretty close and wacked the ball. I mean they wacked this thing good and proper

It hit my leg. To be more precise, it hit the spot on my ankle that my shin pad had twisted away from

End result = me screaming out a loud profanity and husband carrying me off the field

I know this all sounds extremely dreadful but I'm okay. I will survive. For as long as I know how to - hang on, that doesn't sound, um...

Anyway....this is what my ankle looked like just before the ice went on

and this is what it looked like today, two days later

The brusing has travelled down my leg, that red patchy bit is the actual point of impact

So after playing hockey I have two pulled muscles and a swollen ankle
( currently referred to as the 'cankle' )

Sheesh! Excercising is dangerous!

On a lighter note, my cute little niece wore the pink vest, hat and mittens ( well, one of the mittens ) I made

Aw

My new Niece Pt 2

I'm back!!!

To Gloat

So my joking "Rebecca would be a great middle name" turned into reality!

Ooh Yeah!!!

So of couse the first thing I did was go down to the store and by something

Something too big, but something that showed just how much she loved her Aunty
( I am her favourite after all )

Smiles!!

and sleep

 naw
isn't she tiny?

*super proud Aunty moment right here*

My new Niece

On Saturday I got a new niece

She's been named Addiena

Its a Welsh name meaning ' Beautiful '

And I've decided, I'm her favourite

She didn't stop looking at me once I was holding her

I've told my brother to make her middle name Rebecca

We'll have to wait and see if he chooses such and awesome name!

I've been.... knitting!!!

Hello!

You guessed it, I've been knitting!

I've also been hating blogger
Does anyone else have the latest internet versions and has to fight with their settings?
I can't even see mine...

Just to get this far, is a mission in itself!

So anyhoo....

Mum taught me to knit at the end of July and I've been busy making things

I made this first, out of acrylic to see if I liked knitting
I decided I did like knitting, but not using acrylic

Then I made this vest and learnt cables
( which are a LOT easier than they look )

and this matching hat
well, its based on that
A Ravelry friend did an alteration of it and I used her pattern

They're for my future neice
If its a girl that is

I haven't started boy items yet - I have a whole month before its due

I also knitted this beanie for a workmate, and crocheted the Logo
I'm not going to lie, the bat was a pain to make and a pain to sew on
Workmate was happy so thats all that matters!

and finally, I finished some ' rasta ' slippers in crochet for my brother
They were a mix of these slippers but he wanted
' those bits that go up your legs like socks '

of course he wanted them to go with his new phone case I had previously made...

I'm sure I'll get more orders from him so I'm keeping the black, red, yellow and green yarn at the ready

So thats why I haven't blogged lately - because as you can see, I've been super super busy!

Winter

Its winter and its cold

I don't like the cold

So, to make things more cheery, I've decided to pretend its summer

Oh to be warm again

now THAT feels better!

Ripple Blanket!!

Right so I had a brainwave, Blogger App!
Searched it, found it, installed it!
Yay!!

So finally here it is:

The Ripple Blanket!!

Well I don't know how this will work.

I'm trying to put the pics between my writing but that's not working!!

Ah well, here are the pics

Photos and Craziness

I usually update my posts in my lunch break or before work, or sometime where I have access to my photos and the internet

Well that just hasn't happened for weeks!

I got a new computer at work that won't let me use the new blogger template or upload photos

Then Husband got an iPad, that thing won't let me upload photos

My iPhone won't let me upload photos

I'm stuck

So here I am, at home working on some slippers ( which are supposed to have car racing stripes, we'll get to that another day ) when all I want to do is share my finished ripple blanket with the world!

And what do you know, I go to the computer, I log in and stupid iPhoto says 'upgrade or die!!!'

Okay I'm lying, it says 'quit or upgrade'

Now I can't share my photos, have 855 incoming messages and I'm really loosing my patience

So here are some pics that I have been able to access:

Here's my latest diving adventure, we went to the Tutukaka coast, to look for crayfish.
We found one, he was too small

I would have a picture of it, but I let go of the camera and it floated away

Later, while eating lunch in the boat, Husband saw it floating by! Hurrah!!

This is me, at 16 meters deep ( 52 feet )

Here's Husband and I - hows this for a couples shot???

And here's the ugly blanket I repaired for someone
Now, before you say anything, I was asked:
''could you please fix this ugly blanket for me?"

While I was working on the brown blanket repairing holes and praying I wouldn't break the already thin, very old and worn wool, Husband was setting up the new TV bracket
Miss Holly found the box it came in
And made herself at home

Once my photos are working, I'll be putting up pics of my Ripple Blanket!!!

Scuba at Goat Island

This weekend I went Scuba Diving for the first time

The other times were for my course so they don't really count...

All last week I was jumping around the house like a crazy woman

I just couldn't contain my excitement

Husband decided we would go to Goat Island

Its a marine reserve with a strict ' look but don't touch and especially no taking ' policy

So we arrived, and I started getting kitted up

We were the only ones going in the water at that stage so had quite the audience watching us get ready

Down three flights of stairs to the beach and we were in!

Here's me

Here's Husband

And of course it wouldn't be right not to do ' the pose '

Here's one of many crayfish we spotted

and a GIANT snapper

this pic reminded me of one of those predator type shots, stalking in the background!
that thing was MASSIVE!

the rules say ' no feeding the fish ' but that Kina was already in the water, we just crushed it open
Husband got a bite on the finger so promptly dropped the Kina

Macho man must pick up rock

and here's me after the dive, SOOOOOOOOOO Happy!!!

but I felt like this on the inside

you would too if you had to carry all the gear and 12kgs of weights in your pockets and having to climb back up the stairs!

What did you do this weekend?

My latest WIP

I've been working on something

Something with waves, I think it kinda fits my new diving hobby
Not that I've been out since my course - I'm going diving tomorrow

Anyway...

Ocean - Waves - Ripples - Crochet Blanket

Acutally, it all started when I made my Granny Stripe Blanket

My husband stole it, said it was 'unfair' that I made one for myself and not him

Well, off I went to buy some more wool and found these bright amazing colours

I don't particularly like the Orange ball
I've never been a fan of Orange coloured things ( except Mandarins - YUM !!! )

So I started on a blanket for Mr Unfair

Here is my WIP
for those who don't know, this means ' work in progress '

Its not finished so thats all you get to see

It will have a boarder and be as pretty manly as I can possibly make it

I'll probably make another one for husband because after starting this one, I don't think it suits him

What.
A.
Shame.

I shall have to make another blanket, and buy more wool
Such torture!

But I will endure
... and I will buy more delicious wool

Muahahahaha!!!!!!!

I'm a Scuba Diver!

you guessed it

I'M A SCUBA DIVER!!!!

I grew up in a family that spends weeks/months at the beach at a time camping
We were always in/on/around the water

Over the years, I've gotten scared of the ocean, I started not liking the big waves. Then I started hating boats. Then I just avoided the water

Last summer I went for two swims, one of those was snorkling
Two! In three weeks!

So in January ( my summer ) husband asked me to think about doing a Scuba course

My first reaction was '' NO WAY " - I had started giving up on water/the ocean

But I thought about it, and thought about it, and thought about it

My response was still a big fat " NO "

Then a special came up on the course and I signed up

HUH ???!!!???

I was terrified, but I endured it

I did all the skills in a swimming pool first, which involved
taking the regulator ( the thing you breath out of ) out of my mouth and throwing it over my shoulder behind me, retrieving it, and putting it back in my mouth
I took my mask right off in the pool ( which is 3 meters deep ) putting it back on and clearing the water out
My worst one was call the CESA - you take a deep breath at 6-9 meters deep, and then blow bubbles out while heading to the surface

You have to learn a lot of underwater signals
Thumbs up does not mean ' cool ' or ' awesome '
It means ' lets go to the surface '

If you make a circle with your first finger and thumb, that means ' okay '

So enough rambling, here are the pics from my course out in the ocean - where you have to do all the scary skills again but deeper!

Here's me getting ready to go under

regulator removal

mask removal

one of the main rules of scuba diving is to take a buddy, so that if you get in trouble, there's someone down there with you to help out
He's me and my course buddy, Mike

Here's our group, off way to the right trying not to be in the photo is our instructor

and here's me again but qualified to dive having passed my course!

Hurray!!!
